Jakarta was home to the Asian Games in 2018. A feasibility study was commissioned by the Indonesian government with our customer, ES Global to determine the possibility and viability of a new Velodrome. The development of cycling in Indonesia and the possibility of hosting further world class cycling events were both drivers in the decision to create a permanent velodrome. The Velodrome was built to comply with the highest international cycling federation standards, be a centre of excellence for cycling in Asia whilst being a very cost effective solution. The building was also designed to host other activities as part of the ongoing legacy.
This project saw the development of ‘in-truss’ ventilation duct, formed by ETFE sheet held in tension within the building structure. This significantly reduced both structural weight and build times and has been adopted as a preferred design method for temporary structures.
